This
article was not what I expected at all, and turned out to be really
interesting. It talks about games and the ideas behind them and does it all by
comparing it to theatre. The author writes about her story on how she went to
school for theatre and always thought she would become a director or an actor
but somehow got mixed up in making computer games. And then she goes on to
compare how they are really alike and how playing the games is just like a
theatre and their audience.
This
was really interesting because I’ve never thought about games in this way
before. It is kind of true what the author is saying. On how when you’re at a
play it is mostly all pretend and the actors are the people who decide what
happens and even though the director has the final say it’s kind of true for
us. We would be the actors and we decide what our character do and become, and
the “director” would be the person who made it. Because they are the one
decides overall how the game looks and gives the final say in what how the
person who plays it gets to do. I will admit when I was younger I did play a
lot of Sims and Club penguin, and it was kind of neat because what she was
saying was things that I could actually relate to.
When I
think of graphic arts I normally think logos and all the stereotypes the author
listed off. I never considered that making these kind of virtual games as part
of that. And it was actually really interesting learning about everything that
goes into it. It is crazy on how you can use a computer to make anything you
want. And the author gets to use this to do what she wants even if it doesn’t have
human actors.
