Reading Response 2 - Maddie Schroeder

When it comes to computers, I do not exactly think of other topics such as psychology and theater making a huge impact on human interactions with computers, otherwise known as interface. I usually think of a graphic designer or a computer geek programming things on computers all day, but in reality, there are other professions that have taken the time to add to the way we communicate with computers. I think its cool that he used his experience with acting and theater school and applied it to computer programming, which he saw as a more practical job. His eye for scene set up and directing helped him when designing children’s games and learning games. I also think its especially interesting the way he describes how within a computer program, theater impacts the lighting and set up and basically the action of the program. The comparison he makes with theater and computer programming interface is something I have never thought about especially because theater is such an old and traditional concept that has been around for hundreds of years and computers are a relatively new invention.
This article is reassuring in the light that art can be applied to so many things that we might not even think of. There is going to be those important scientific minds that create programming, but there will always need to be the imaginative artistic minds to make it appealing to the eye and also the user. The design aesthetic is just as important as the programming that goes into it.  The problem solving that goes along with an artistic mind is also so essential when applying art to an every day practical job. What convinced me to be an art student is that it really does train you to think critically and become a problem solver, which is what most companies are looking for these days in an employee.
