The clash between Apple Macintosh
and Windows Microsoft has been going on for many years and I thought this
article was very informative of describing the origins and development of such
systems of technology. Even with the
author’s obvious bias in favor of Microsoft, the information and ideas in his
article were effectively portrayed. I
agree with the author, that most people began purchasing Apple products over
Microsoft products because it became more of what the general public was doing. In a way, it was and remains a peer pressure
type purchase. It is always the “cool”
new fad to have the latest Apple products, and therefore people’s will to fit
in, motivates them to purchase this Apple product.
This article provoked me to bring
up a different point about how Apple is coming out with a new update for the
iPhone, that to me looks more like the appearance of a Windows phone. Here is a link to an article that describes
the opinion of many that the new iPhone update is a copy of Microsoft Windows
android phones. http://www.zdnet.com/apple-ios-7-android-copycat-7000016705/
I think that it is interesting to try to analyze the reasoning of why Apple
would choose to make the new update more similar to their biggest
competitor. Perhaps this choice was made
simply to try to change up the appearance and start a new trend.
Another major idea that the author seemed to
focus on was the way in which technology has advanced, but actually is based on
the same fundamental ideas that originally created the first operating
system. It is interesting to me that
technology has had such a significant impact on transforming our generations,
yet the actual technology has had very small changes implemented to it. This also has to do with the role operating
systems play in the communication between humans. For example, we can obviously see that with
advances in technology much of humanity has begun to rely on texting and emails
for their main stream of communication, which many people think is a negative
aspect of technology. However, this
revolution of communication is due to such minor changes in the actual systems
of technology, but it is just how our humanity handles these changes that
causes such transformations within our generations.
