Reading Response- Emily Mensching

                I do think the beginning was really a neat thing to think about. How they all just came up with this idea for a computer out of nothing. And now computers are such an important part of some people’s lives, and it is also such a huge industry. It is just really interesting that a couple people took something that was probably just their dream and made it into something real, and now it is such big thing that someone actually took the time to write an article on one virus another.

Well Stephenson obviously likes windows more than he likes apple, but I do think he has some really good points that I have never actually thought out. One big point was about marketing and how apple really does try to market. I would say that most people I know have an apple computer or something apple and I think a part of that is because everyone has that. In the reading they talked about how people follow what other people do, and I think a big part of why everyone has apple is because they are just following other people. Apple does do a good job of making it look “cool” and different from anything else though. They also advertises all over. They also sell different accessories that are not even for your computer, like t shirts, and little IPhone magnets and stickers. It is kind of like as much as it is about the technology it is also about just being a part of something that so many people are a part of.

                Apple is also more expensive than windows. And I would say it’s not like you are paying for a better computer, it is more like you are paying for the looks and to be a part of apple. Apple has this community or something that some people get really into. For example, some of their apps cannot be used by everyone else. They are always adding new improvements every day. And I think because of that, they can make it way more expensive and have people buy it, when in reality they could probably get a computer as just good as quality for a lot less money.

                When it comes down to it though, I don’t know if apple or windows are better. I think that apple fits better for some people and windows does for others. There are programs that work for the Windows computer and not for an Apple, so maybe the different computers are better for different people.
